Dublin is an excellent city that's great fun to visit, and will cheer you up no matter what the length of your visit. Guinness Brewery is world famous, and you can also see the numerous historical sites in and around the city, including the Viking centre, the National Museum, Trinity College and the General Post Office. Or, you can just concentrate on having a good time - in which case, any Dublin tour you do should include Temple Bar, Ireland's top nightlife district.

If any city in the world is famous for its pubs, then it's Dublin. You've always got a chance of catching a traditional music session, but, for a guaranteed Irish musical experience, then go on an excursion that attempts to recreate a traditional Irish house party, which also includes dinner. You can also go on a guided musical pub crawl, or on the famous literary pub crawl which includes the watering holes of many celebrated authors.

If you can crawl out of bed the next day and can't face a coach tour, consider taking a hop on hop off bus tour. This stops at all major tourist sites in Dublin, and your ticket includes a range of discounts. You may also be interested in the Dublin Card, which gives you money off entry into many tourist sites across the city and beyond. These options are perfect if you want to do your Dublin sightseeing at your own pace.

However, if you would appreciate someone to show you the sights during the day, then there are several walking tours that you can go on. Dublin tours are available that cover Viking and Medieval Dublin, and these visit St Audoen's, the city's oldest parish church that is still in use, Dublin Castle and the old city walls. The general Dublin walking tour includes a range of sights, including Grafton Street and Georgian Dublin, Trinity College and O'Connell Street, the longest street in Ireland and where the statues still bear the bullet holes from the 1916 rebellion against British rule.

Visitors can also take a cruise on the waters of the Liffey - both daytime and evening cruises are available. This is an excellent proposition if you want to take some time to relax and enjoy the city scenery.

Ireland is a relatively small place, and you can reach most places within a day trip from Dublin - although many excursions last for 2-3 days to give you the best possible experience. Wexford and Waterford are the site of the Norman invasion of Ireland, and are full of fascinating historical sites - they can easily be done in a day trip from the city. Cork has a range of attractions and an excellent nightlife, and is close to both the Blarney Stone and Cobh, the exit point for many Irish immigrants to the New World. Galway is a lively town and the gateway to the Aran Islands, and trips here often include stops at the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry. Or, you can take a trip over the border to Northern Ireland, the highlights of which are the Giant's Causeway and the now-peaceful city of Belfast.

Wherever you go in Ireland, you'll be guaranteed to meet good cheer and excellent hospitability.
